to attending law school during world war ii, judge battin served in the united states navy. early in his career judge battin practiced law in washington, d.c., and in billings, montana, later he served in a number of public service positions including deputy county attorney for yellowstone county, montana, and city attorney in billings. in 1958 judge battin served as a state representative in montana and in 1961 he was elected to u.s. house of representatives and served as a u.s. representative from montana until 1969. in 1969 judge battin was appointed by president nixon to be a judge on the u.s. district court for the district of montana. during that time he served as chief judge from 1978 to 1990, when he assumed senior status. judge battin's commitment to public service is clear. i believe his dedication to serving this nation makes it fitting to name this courthouse after him. i support passage of this legislation and urge my colleagues to do the same. mr. speaker, i reserve the balance of my time. the speaker pro tempore: the gentleman from california, mr. denham, reserves the balance of

, a member of the team, a navy s.e.a.l., sadly was killed. he was a member of s.e.a.l. team six, the same elite unit that took part in the raid that killed osama bin laden. president obama paid tribute to the fallen s.e.a.l. saying quote, he gave his life for his fellow americans, end quote. chris lawrence is at the pentagon right now with home run on this mission. first of all, i think, chris, a lot of people didn't even know there was a doctor who had been kidnapped and needed rescuing. what's the story behind this? >> and that's not all that unusual. a lot of times, they will not publicize a kidnapping while they are still sorting out the particulars or trying to ascertain whether they might launch a rescue mission. it often does more harm than good to put it out there and put the details out there. so that's not all that unusual. in this case, the doctor was working for morning star. a non-profit agency. he was with two local afghan, i believe at least one of them was a doctor as well, and they were coming back from a rural medical clinic east of kabul when armed men basically stopped

with some sad news today. a u.s. navy seal killed during the daring rescue of an american held captive in the heart of afghanistan. good morning i'm jon scott. jenna: i'm jenna lee. when we talk about the american captive, we have a picture of the doctor whose live was saved. he is dylan joseph, a native colorado. he was in afghanistan for humanitarian work when i was kidnapped by the taliban in a province east of kabul. national security correspondent jennifer griffin is live at pentagon with more. jen, do we have any details on the american who gave his life to save this doctor? >> reporter: they're waiting to contact the family so the military does not release the identity of the seal killed in that rescue attempt. we know he was a member of "seal team 6". not necessarily a member of the same group that carried out the usama bin laden raid. there are about 200 members of "seal team 6". this man, as you said, gave his life for his fellow american. here is a statement that was read by the spokesman for isaf today. >> it has been decided to start the operations since the assessment the

the weekend the navy seals attempted to rescue dr. dilip joseph. they succeede succeeded but in e process a seal was killed. joining us from washington is lieutenant colonel ralph peters and colorado david hunt, fox news military analyst. how did the operation go down to rescue the dr., colonel hunt? >> sure. you said five days ago there was three people kidnapped working to help the afghan knee people just north of kabul. two afghans and dr. joseph. they were followed by satellite and also followed by drones, and we had some assets on the ground. there were negotiations between morningstar which is the company for whom they worked, and the taliban. there was a $12,000 ransom paid and the two afghans were let go. there wasn't any ransom being paid, and his life was being threatened, dr. joseph's, and they were considering moving him across the pakistani border. an order was given for afghani special forces and seal team 6 to do a raid on the fly, much more difficult than the bin laden raid because it was done on the fly. a seal from pennsylvania was killed but dr. joseph was rescued. it w
